The photograph is where the image starts

High-end retouching for commercial imagery - products, jewelry, fashion, e-commerce and advertising. One service, one set of packages, whatever the subject.

What retouching is for

A good photograph and a finished commercial image are not the same object. Between them sits the work of making every frame consistent, every surface behave, and every detail survive being reproduced at any size a campaign needs.

This is not about rescuing weak photography. Most of it arrives well shot. The work is finishing it to the standard the brand is going to publish at.

What it solves

  • Surfaces and reflections

Metal, glass and polished materials made to read correctly rather than distractingly.

  • Colour and material finish

Colour corrected and matched so the product looks like itself across every image.

  • Product cleanup

Dust, blemishes and marks removed without flattening the texture that makes it real.

  • Compositing

Elements combined, backgrounds replaced and shadows built where the shot needs them.

  • Consistency across a series

A set of images that holds together as one campaign rather than a folder of separate edits.

Why it is worth doing properly

  • Avoid unnecessary reshoots

Many problems that look like shoot problems can be resolved in finishing, at a fraction of the cost of going back.

  • Consistency at scale

A hundred images that match matters more commercially than one image that is perfect.

  • Control the details

The parts a customer actually zooms into are the parts that get the attention.

  • Keep the product believable

Finished, not falsified. The product still has to be the product when it arrives.

A good fit if

You already have photographs and need them brought to a consistent, finished commercial standard.

If the photographs do not exist yet, or the product needs to be captured in a specific way, start with a shoot instead.

Keeping a large series consistent

On a bigger package the risk is not one difficult image, it is fifty images that drift. Direction is established at the start of the set and the rest are worked to it, so the series holds together.

Revisions are included within the agreed project scope, so anything that has moved away from the direction gets brought back.

How it works

  1. Choose a packagePick the volume that fits the set. Larger packages carry a better rate per image.
  2. Upload your imagesEvery order gets its own private upload link, so your files are never mixed with anyone else.
  3. Retouch and reviewThe direction is set on the first images and applied across the set, with revisions inside the agreed scope.
  4. Final deliveryHigh-resolution files in the agreed format. Layered PSD or TIFF source files are available on request and confirmed before work begins.

The full workflow is set out on the retouching process page.

Photographer and retoucher

The finishing decisions are lighting decisions. Knowing how a light shaped that reflection, why a material went that colour and what the lens did to the edge is what tells you which of them to change and which to leave alone.

Fifteen years of doing both, one visual standard, and direct communication with the person actually doing the work.

I've often asked Ivan to retouch my images, and I've never been disappointed. This time, too, the request was unique and Ivan delivered excellent results. I commend him for the work he has done and highly recommend him

Questions

What files should I send?

The highest quality originals you have. After ordering you get a private upload link for your images.

Can you match an existing visual style?

Yes. Send reference images or previously approved work and the set will be worked to that direction.

Can you handle large image sets?

Yes. Direction is established at the start of the set and applied across it, which is what keeps a large series consistent.

What if my images need more work than the package covers?

Send the details and I will quote the actual scope rather than stretching a package to fit it.
